How to Choose a Religious Gift

What is the Importance of Giving Gifts Religiously

To be considered a religious gift, the only quality a gift must possess is to increase the recipient's faith in Allah and remind them of their religion. For example, even a necklace with the word Allah written on it is definitely considered a religious gift because it will constantly remind the person of Allah as long as they wear it and make them feel His spiritual power. For this reason, when choosing, one should not just try to buy a Quran, but also consider other gift options that can be considered religious products, and try to determine the most suitable option for the person receiving the gift. Calligraphy paintings, reading stands, prayer beads, prayer rugs, and jewelry with religious motifs are also among the religiously themed gifts. Gift-giving is Sunnah in our religion. As is known, Sunnah refers to actions performed by our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) but not made obligatory for Muslims. Our Prophet, in many of his hadiths, gave many recommendations about gift-giving and asked Muslims to give gifts to each other. The purpose of gift-giving in religion is to increase the closeness among Muslims, to repair any potential rifts that may arise over time, to build warmer bonds, and by giving gifts to those in need, to also enable Muslims to help each other.

How to Choose Religious Gifts

The selection of a religious gift should always be done with great sensitivity. When choosing a gift, both the content of the gift and its suitability for the recipient are important. For example, a Quran without a translation will be of no use to someone who cannot read Arabic Quran. If the person we are buying a gift for is someone close enough that we know their needs, we should choose a gift according to their needs. A book explaining how to pray, given to someone who doesn't know how to pray, will both make them happy and be a gift option that suits the purpose of gift-giving. At this point, what should be considered in gift selection is that it has enough religious power to awaken spiritual feelings in the person, that it is capable of meeting the person's needs, and that it is definitely a gift that they can use. If this is achieved, the gift received will be a successful choice, and both the recipient will benefit from this gift, and the giver will have fulfilled the meaning of gift-giving.
