How Prepared is Istanbul for Earthquakes?
The earthquakes and loss of life that have occurred one after another in our country have also brought about building transformation projects. In order to avoid losses and prevent the same pains in another possible earthquake, the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization includes housing at risk of disaster within the scope of the transformation project. Within this scope, 6.5 million buildings are thought to need to be renovated.
It is stated that it is very important for citizens to request an inspection of their homes, which they consider to be at risk. These inspections will be carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. For the assessments to be made for risky buildings, homeowners will pay a fee per square meter of the area owned by the house.
The State's New Project: Urban Transformation
The fees to be paid have been determined by the Directorate of the Revolving Fund Enterprise of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. According to the decision taken, homeowners are required to pay 2.25-TL per square meter for residences with a usage area up to 500 square meters. This price includes VAT. For buildings larger than 500 square meters and up to 1000 square meters, an additional fee of 1.75-TL per square meter will be added.
For buildings larger than 1001 square meters, an extra 1-TL per square meter will be paid. For example, if an apartment has an area of 1000 square meters and is considered to have 10 apartments, each apartment owner will have to pay 200-TL.
